In life we make mistakes. We learn, we grow, if we're lucky we improve and move forward after all the hardships of the day are laid to rest.
But sometimes you take a few steps back. Back and forth, up and down. It can be a damn rollercoaster some days.
You may succeed today, but fall on your face tomorrow.
There is a board game called LIFE. Maybe you played it when you were a kid. It didn't really teach us anything. Not that you really expect a board game to, just say'n. But if you played it you might remember the dice roll that got you a card that made you go back a few spaces.
One step forward. Two steps back.
That's how Liesel and I have been getting along. It's not her fault AT ALL. I've been learning a lot from her and about myself in the process. Such as doing a lace chart for the first time on a PLANE is not something I can do well. Just because I don't have a phone ringing off in my ear doesn't mean the plane is the peaceful place to explore something like this. In fact it's not peaceful at all. I'll be taking socks with me during my next travel. So there you go.
I've also learned that while a sock can fly off the needles while drooling over watching BattleStar Galactica. Doing Liesel during this program doesn't do anything but shred the yarn due to the massive frogging that is sure to follow. *sigh* Liesel is a lady and as such should be treated with respect and given the proper alone time and attention a lady deserves.
So today I cast on to her yet again. Using Artyarn's 100% Merino Wool handpaint stripes in color 139. I also switched to the metal needles. They are working out much better for this pattern. The slickness is a plus for once... until TKK decides she wants to play with the ends of the needles. o.0 Did you know all your stitches can fall right off the needle if your cat grabs the needle and runs off? Well I know now. *L* So cute! I'm also using stitch markers. Wish me luck. I really want to do this pattern. It shouldn't be as hard as I've made it.
Yesterday I picked up the Irish Hiking Scarf which hadn't seen any lovin' in a while. I had an epiphany. It was powerful. Like moses parting the red sea powerful. Like making fire for the first time powerful. For a moment I was a God.... wha? where I am?!.... so anyway it occurred to me that I didn't NEED the pattern any longer. If I just knit the V's and purl the bumps and do the cable needle twist thingy every 8 rows I'd have my pattern.
*ding went my light bulb*
All I'm doing is making ribbing, like on socks, just bigger/longer and with a twist every now and then. Cables aren't a big deal at all and I don't need to see the pattern to keep doing them. Once I set the pattern down and just went with the flow that thing started flying. :D Very cool. Much faster too. *L* Now I can play with the Irish Hiking Scarf while I watch BattleStar Galatica, House or CSI the same way Sockie can. :D
Because in the end it's all about keeping your hands busy while your head is looking at yummy talented people acting out stories that amuse you. (not really :P)
In other news I think James Callis, Hugh Laurie and William Petersen are very talented. But that wasn't really my point to this post at all, now was it. :P
Lace...I admire your tenacity. I don't think that's something I am anywhere close to being ready to do.
I'm a chicken...

I LOVE dyeing lace yarn, but I will NOT kit with it. It's way too thin for me. My big man hands keep doing a number on it. I admire anyone able to knit with it. It's always beautiful.
PS-I'm sending you something, so check your email.

Don't you feel so smart for learning a pattern? It's like learning to ride a bike and you look behind you to realize that Mom (or Dad) hasn't been holding it up for you. :)

You're doing cables without the pattern and I'm still over here avoiding Cozy.
